General
In 1953, Leon Inar Morrison with then-wife, Gordon Hugh Morrison with wife Sue, and Ivan Peterson with wife Beverly went on a road trip to Canada. Based on slide photos showing only one car, which was noted as "Leon's car", they may have all ridden in Leon's car. They may have stayed in cabins (shown in another slide). They went fishing, and another photo shows the wives holding a caught fish. Note 2012-05-12: Gordon Lee Morrison has the vacation slides. |

Auto Crash Injuries Prove Fatal
Navy Wife Dies; Fatality Second in National City
National City recorded its second traffic fatality of the year yesterday, with the death in Naval Hospital of Mrs. Alyce Joan Morrison, 41, Navy wife, of 264 Del Mar Ave., Chula Vista.
Mrs. Morrison died of a hemmorrhage caused by chest injuries, Deputy Coroner Jesse C. Canale reported. She was injured in a collision of two cars and a truck-trailer on Harbor Dr. at Fourth St., National City, Friday night.
She was a passenger in a southbound auto driven by her husband, Leon Morrison, 37, a Navy chief machinist's mate attached to the Naval Station. Canale said a truck-trailer pulled out of Gate 8 at Naval Station and the driver crossed Harbor Dr. and was waiting to go north with traffic, but the trailer jutted out 10 feel in the inner southbound lane.
Morrison saw the danger and applied brakes, but his auto slid into the outside lane, sideswiped a car driven by Daschler Wilde of 3695 First Ave., San Diego, then bounced back into the trailer. Morrison escaped with minor injuries.
The first traffic death in National City this year occurred April 5 when a pedestrian ran into the side of a moving auto on Montgomery Freeway. The death yesterday raised the combined city-county toll to 95 killed this year, including 55 in rural areas, 30 in San Diego, and 10 in other cities.
