Narrative
The U.S. Sons of American Revolution Membership Application by Herchel V. Lewis states:
David Lewis (1730) "is the ancestor who assisted in establishing American Independence, while acting in the capacity of: private in 10th regimental line of North Carolina in the company of Capt. Benjamin Bailey under Col. Abraham Shepard."
Also stated is, "David Lewis ... was a private in active service in the Tenth Regimental Line, Captain Benjamin Bailey's Company, Abraham Shephard, Colonel; enlisted April 12th, 1781, for twelve months' service, and honorably discharged on April 12th, 1782. See North Caroline Colonial records, Volume 16, page 1106, and Volume 22, Pages 55 and 74."
